The number of Facebook users worldwide touched 2.45 billion in September 2019, cementing the platform’s status as the most popular social media network. In the US, 68% of the population use Facebook, ahead of Instagram (35%), Pinterest (29%), and Snapchat (27%).

Of these users, 2.62 billion log into their Facebook accounts at least once every day, thus considered daily active users. This represents an 8% year-over-year increase. On average, five new accounts are created every five seconds.

Want to Increase your Facebook ROI? Get More Follows and Likes

Owing to the popularity of the platform right across the demographics, Facebook promises a very high return on investment (ROI). But only if you can generate sufficient engagement, especially likes and follows.

Fortunately, it doesn’t take rocket science to get more likes and follows on Facebook. The following are 15 tips to get you started;

1. Ask people to like and follow your page

This is the easiest and most straightforward way to generate more likes and follows. After creating your Facebook profile, ask people who come across the page to like and follow it. The great thing is that Facebook even helps page owners by sending notifications suggesting that you invite certain people to like your brand. Make sure also to ask your email subscribers to follow you on Facebook.

2. Use an authentic profile picture and cover photo

Some marketers still don’t fully appreciate the significance of the Facebook profile picture and cover photo. These two are the first things people see when they come across your profile. If you don’t make a strong first impression, very few people will like/follow your page, and even fewer will bother to check out the page. Social Sprout recommends using images that truly connect with your audience. It doesn’t have to be your logo.

3. Add social media buttons to your online pages

If you’re a marketer on Facebook, it’s likely that you also have a presence on many other online platforms. Many brands, for instance, have websites and blogs. The majority are also present on several other social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. To get more likes and follows, add a Facebook button to all the media you share on these platforms.

4. Partner with an influencer

Influencer marketing has been on the rise in recent times, and for a good reason – influencers boost brand awareness. In some cases, an influencer can help you enter new markets and thus gain not only new followers but also new customers. The best industries for influencer marketing include fashion, hotel, travel, and real estate.

5. Add a “Follow” button on your website

The main difference between social share and follow buttons is that follow buttons allow users to follow you directly. Users don’t have to visit your Facebook page to follow your brand. To install Follow buttons, go to Facebook and navigate to the Follow Button menu. You’ll be asked to choose where you want the buttons to appear and the desired button position (before or after posts).

6. Run a Facebook ad

Ads designed for generating engagement are called engagement ads. Engagement ads increase the appeal of your brand. You don’t necessarily have to promote a product. Instead, focus on highlighting qualities of your brand that would make prospective customers fall in love with your business. Remember to choose “Engagement” as the campaign goal when setting up the ads.

7. Use Facebook Live to draw attention

Facebook Live produces up to six times as many interactions as traditional Facebook videos, according to 99Firms. A Live video, for instance, gets ten times more comments than a regular video. This year, the popularity of the videos increased by 330%, with 80% of respondents in a survey by LiveStream saying they prefer live videos. If you’re not using the videos yet, you’re leaving money on the table.

8. Include lots of images and videos

A recent report on Social Sprout shows that videos are the most shared content on social media. Quoting excerpts from Buzzsumo, the report shows that the top four most liked posts on Facebook in 2018 were all videos. The most liked item was a YouTube music video with over 22 million likes. It’s the clearest indication that images, especially videos, are a great way to attract more likes and even followers.

9. Leverage Facebook Like pop-ups

You’ve likely seen these pop-ups on websites of prominent brands. After spending some time on the website, a pop-up appears asking the visitor to like the page on Facebook if they’re impressed. You can even choose a timer that tracks a user’s activity on the site and generates the pop-up after a specified period. An easy way to add the pop-ups is using OptinMonster.

10. Offer discounts and promotions

Multiple studies show that giveaways and discounts are some of the most loved items on social media. In one such study, it was found that after interest in a brand and its products, the majority of social media users follow brands that regularly provide discounts and giveaways. In the study, 58% of respondents said they follow various brands because of promotions and discounts.

11. Run contests

Aside from freebies and discounts, another thing that really excites social media users is contests, especially if there’s something worthwhile to be won at the end of it. One excellent form of contests is asking users to tag your brand in photos and post the photos on their timelines. It’s a great way to reach more people.

12. Stay true to your colors

The reason many brands miss out on growth opportunities on social media is that they want to hop onto every trend, even when those trends have nothing to do with their businesses. Don’t make that mistake. People love trends, yes. But, you’ll soon lose your reputation if you stand for nothing. If you must join the bandwagon, spin the content to fit your company ethos.

13. Be the first to break the big news

When something important happens in the industry, you need to be the first to break the news. It shows your audience that you’re an authority in your industry, and they can rely on you to remain updated. Just make sure to understand the type of news your audience wants to hear. As mentioned above, relevance is critical.

14. Avoid social competition

Unless you’re a major brand at the level of Nike or Coca-Cola, establishing a major presence on all the social networks is impossible. Interestingly, even Nike and Coca-Cola tend to focus on just a few social platforms. Follow in their footsteps. Since resources are limited, select just two or three platforms and channel all your energy into the three. If Facebook is one of them, great!

15. Invest in data and analytics

All the best brands do it. They collect data, break it down, and extract patterns to help them improve their campaigns. You need to invest in analytics too. From A/B tests to social monitoring tools, find ways to capture data to help you track your progress, and improve your campaign. What data does extremely well is eliminating guesswork. When you have insight from analytics software, you remove the guesswork from the equation.

Time to Get Started

There are many other ways you can adjust your Facebook campaign to generate more follows and likes. The 15 above, however, make a great starting point.
